Why do we get tensed up, and even emotional at times, over unsatisfactory exam results? The reason will vary from person to person, depending on the individual's perspective of THE REASON for going to school to receive an education. To many, it's an avenue to study, do well in exams, get qualifications/scholarships/degrees/honours to boost our chances of getting some bond to a company, or a high paying/high flying job. Then we'll have enough $$ to live luxuriously, give back to our parents ($$) what they have given to us, and eventually start a family, have kids, grow old and die. What is this, really? Is this really what we want? I know many idealistic people, people who don't give 2 hoots about results/jobs/money; these people just want to pursue their 'dreams' and 'aspirations'. How achievable is this? It is hard to keep an ideal state of mind when everyone around you is continually bombarding/drilling into you this notion: STUDY HARD LA day after day, night after night. Soon your ideals also get blurred, you lose track of what you really set out to do in life. You become like any other student in the Spore education system, blinded by the school's ideals/vision/mission, mugging endlessly to get good results so as to .... (refer to aforementioned). It's a viscious cycle, isn't it. I read Mok's entry, he's right. There are incentives to everything. People often zoom in to immediate actions - study hard now, next time then got future! (common parent-talk). People, in their continual quest to 'outdo' others have failed to look at education as a whole. At the end of the day, I do agree that one's future will inevitably depend on how well you do in school (its a universally set standard, no one can change this). That's why everyone pin ming mug now. Everyone's doing it, so we better do it too! -kiasuism. Ultimately, I hope everyone remembers, that studies aren't everything. There's more to life that good grades, there's love, friendship, passion, and learning. Studying will just get you off with a good start, but good grades will not assure you of anything. you may be some top scholar, but in the end, if you're devoid of compassion and love, you're still going to end up on your deathbed, alone, and afraid. then you will ask urself, what have i done. Still, everyone has different opinions and motivations and I'm in no position to say anything or change any mindsets. Let this post be a reminder to everyone, then. Live your life to the fullest, be happy everyday. That's the main thing. If you're emo and sad all day, the effects are worse than if you fail tests or exams. Cheerup girl <3 |
